Abstract

Older persons have a significantly higher disease burden compared with younger adults, and they consume almost half of total drug expenditures. Because of the changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics with aging, and the risk for adverse drug reactions can be increased. Beers criteria was introduced to identify the potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) in elderly patients since 1991, and the american geriatrics society (AGS) has been revised the criteria. Anticholinergics, antithrombotics, analgesics, skeletal muscle relaxants, cardiovascular and central nervous system drugs correspond with PIMs associated with dizziness in 2012 AGS beers criteria. Physicians should pay particular attention to
identifying the medication history in the elderly patients with dizziness, and keep the principle for appropriate prescription.
